Overcoming Your Technology Fears To Start Your Business Blog
Fear will kill an aspiring entrepreneur.
What are we afraid of?
The single biggest fear I see in home and small business owners is the fear of how they will be perceived.
We worry about what people will think.
This holds back so many entrepreneurs from having success.
We worry that someone is going to laugh at us if we start a blog.
People will think we are joke if we don’t create “the perfect website”.
The funny thing is…
NO ONE is thinking about us!
I don’t say this to be mean. I really don’t. It’s just a fact.
People rarely spend any time thinking about others.
They certainly aren’t sitting around thinking about our businesses.
Don’t let this fear hold you back.
There’s always a way!
You are capable. You can do it!
Here are few basic elements you need to get started creating your business blog.
Business Blog Basics
1. Domain Name
This is an important decision.
If you have a small business with a unique name then obviously you should go with that name.
If you are a home business owner, network marketer, or affiliate marketer then always go with your name or a variation of your name (ie. StarkNakedMarketing.com)
YOU are your biggest asset and you want to own your name online if possible.
2. Hosting Service
You need to have a self-hosted blog.
What that means is that you do not want to use a blog platform like WordPress.com, Tumblr.com or Blogger.com.
There is nothing wrong with these platforms for a personal blog or a hobby blog.
When you use one of the free platforms, once you post content it no longer belongs to you.
It belongs to the platform and you do not have full control over your own content.
When you are creating a business blog you need to have a self-hosted blog because so the content remains solely under your control.
3. Install WordPress
This is different then using WordPress.com for your blog.
WordPress is also a content management system that you can use on a self-hosted site.
There are other content management systems such Drupal and Joomla but WordPress is the only one I recommend for bloggers.
It has a powerful, user-friendly interface that makes it super easy to customize.
4. Autoresponder
Your email list is the most important asset for your business online.
An autoresponder, or email management system, will allow you to collect leads contact information.
Once you have a list you can create email campaigns to continue to provide value, build stronger relationships and present sales offers.
The money is in the list.
With these 4 things you can have a working blog up and running very quickly.
I don’t let your tech fears hold you back. There is always a way to get it done.
